Winter coughs & colds- some self-care advice:

Posted on:

During the winter coughs become increasingly common and not all coughs are caused by a chest infection. Most commonly it is caused by a virus and unfortunately there is no treatment for this. It is usual for a cough to last up to 2-3 weeks and coughing may cause your ribs to ache.

The following leaflets contain some useful self care advice. You can also access advice via your local pharmacy.

Please call your GP surgery if you have cough as well as any of the following: you have an underlying lung condition (such as asthma or COPD), you have a high temperature that you cannot control with paracetamol and/or ibuprofen, you cough up blood, you have had a cough that lasts for more than 3 weeks or you are really unwell with it.

Thank you
